The media plays a very important role in the society
And, so, was Media1 which was an acronym for All Media in One Place. Media1 was a leading media portal based in Serbia. Is used to be an internet portal which used to collects, sort and present the latest news from Serbia and also around the world. The portal ensured that it used the latest technologies and innovative methods that allowed users to better their experience and get more personalized access to information.
The portal used to aggregate more than 2500 news articles daily from more than 50 local and regional sources and have them in one place (on this website). For better experience, the news were sorted according to their various categories (politics, economy) and further sub-categorized (e.g. business, finance, economic policy).
They were also sorted according to their relevance such as breaking news in a given 24 hour schedule and also the specific region where the events of the news have taken place. This was critical in enabling a better user experience by allowing the audience to manipulate content or combine categories with geographical indication filters according to their preferences such sports news from UK etc.
This way they offered the possibility of seeing how various media outlets reported the same news. That’s awesome. Users however had the ability to set their individual preferences by registering to receive the news. Such preferences included the ability to select which specific media one want to see news about, most preferable sources of news and also to drop comments on various editorials.
I don’t know if the media house which launched this internet portal still exists. However, after being gifted the website recently, I decided to bring the website back to life. I will be publishing content which pertain to the various roles of the media in shaping the lives of humans. Already, there are several posts which I’ve already published and they can be accessed by clicking through various topics below.
The Role of the Media in Promoting Good Health
Good health eating habits and engagement in physical fitness activities are very important aspects in the general health and wellness of human beings.
It is paramount to always encourage people to practice both regularly so that we can have a healthy nation. It is important to know that most human beings are ignorant or have limited information about the need to practice good lifestyle habits. Therefore a lot of awareness needs to be created to help such people get the facts rights.
One way in which such messages can reach the general public is through publishing informative articles and press releases about the various conditions which could result from the ignorance of humans. Also interviews with professionals in certain fields of healthy can help draw the facts to various individuals about the need to embrace better lifestyle habits.
I’m a radio host. Although I’ve always tried all my best to practice better lifestyle habits, it wasn’t after 2009 that the reality of proper dieting and regular exercising dawned on me. The incidents which happened then made me realize that most humans beings are either unaware of the need for good diet plans and exercising or are simply ignorant.
Encouraging People to Embrace Better Lifestyles
It all started in 2008 when my mother was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. It was the most devastating news that the family had to deal with, but we were ready to fight this monster which was about to claim my mother’s life. However, even though the oncologist who was seeing her tried to be as positive as possible, I felt that we were likely to lose the battle because the cancer had widely spread.
Apparently, my mum had been so ignorant all along. She had not been attending her regular mammogram checks. She never believed that in any instance would she suffer from breast cancer. I too shared such thoughts too givens that nobody in the family had any history of breast cancer.
But now things were different, barely in her mid 50s she had been diagnosed with a worse stage of breast cancer. Her ignorance had made the cancer to become so extensive. It was until she felt the tumor and the swelling lymph nodes that she decided to go for a medical check up only for the worst to be revealed.
My family was with her during all the period that she battled cancer. It was so painful seeing her go through all the pain that she had to endure. She opted for surgery, but first had to be treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and other drugs for weeks. After that she underwent a breast-conserving surgery (BCS) and afterwards mastectomy was done.
Creating Awareness of Medical Conditions
The battle took another 8 months of radiation therapy and chemotherapy. During this time she had grow so week that we all felt that she would not make it. We were heavily advised to ensure that she fed on special diet. We carefully followed these instructions. Moreover, we were with her all through and tried to give her the care and support that she needed during these traumatizing times.
Luckily, she survived breast cancer. It was in mid 2009 when she was announced free from cancer. After three months, she underwent breast reconstructions. She then felt that she owed the world a lot and would repay by creating awareness of the potential risks of breast cancer.
That is when she decided to join the campaign of creating awareness of the reality of breast cancer. The best place to start such campaigns was on my own evening show. That day as I hosted her on studio, I almost cried as she narrated the ordeals that she had to undergo. She also outlined what she felt really helped her survive the cancer – a switch to a vegan diet and the care & support that she received.
It was from this moment that I decided it was best that from time to time I host medical professional from various fields of health to shed more light into the need for better lifestyles. I’ve done this on each Wednesday every week and it has enabled most of my listeners to get more information about good health.
